Choose the correct maintenance schedule

Use these source-backed checks to identify the applicable service interval. This article does not teach hands-on engine servicing. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.

  1. Step 1 of 6

Identify the HE12 e-POWER powertrain first

Check that the vehicle is the 2016–2020 HE12 e-POWER with the HR12DE-EM57 combination in Nissan's archived table. The gasoline-only E12 and supercharged or NISMO variants have their own rows and must not be used to select a service fill or viscosity.

  2. Step 2 of 6

    Check which maintenance-use category applies

Use Nissan's severe-use definition rather than assuming all driving is normal. Nissan identifies a severe pattern when about 30% or more of driving distance involves rough roads, mountain or steep-gradient routes, or repeated short trips of 8 km or less.

  3. Step 3 of 6

Use the interval for normal use when appropriate

For the cited HE12 e-POWER engine, Nissan gives 12 months or 15,000 km between engine-oil services under normal use. The owner should schedule the service when either time or distance is reached first, even if the car has not accumulated many kilometers.

  4. Step 4 of 6

Apply the shorter interval for qualifying severe use

If the actual driving fits Nissan's severe-use criteria, the engine-oil and oil-filter reference is six months or 7,500 km, whichever comes first. Use the shorter interval when due; a range estimate or the hybrid badge does not override Nissan's maintenance criteria.

  5. Step 5 of 6

Keep oil-only and oil-with-filter quantities separate

Nissan publishes approximately 3.2 L for an oil-only change and 3.4 L with the filter in its HE12 e-POWER table. These are service reference quantities, not permission to add the full amount without checking the level and correct manufacturer procedure.

  6. Step 6 of 6

Record what was serviced and confirm the oil specification

Keep the completion date, odometer reading, whether the filter was replaced, and the fluid used. Nissan's archived table specifies API SN SAE 0W-20 for this HE12 e-POWER row; confirm equivalent current approvals with the correct manual or qualified technician before the next service.
