Step-by-step instructions
Follow these steps
Follow the written instructions in order; illustrations are optional, not a requirement for a complete guide. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 7
Confirm this is the petrol ZRR80 and match its filter housing
Check that the Voxy is from the original petrol ZRR80 configuration covered by Toyota's January 2014 manual, not the hybrid ZWR80 or later generations. Toyota recommends changing this filter at 20,000 km under standard conditions, or 10,000 km in areas with heavy traffic, dust or cold conditions.
- Step 2 of 7
Switch the engine off and open the glove box
Park securely and set the ignition switch to LOCK or OFF as equipped. Empty and lower the glove box gently, identifying the attached damper stay on the side rather than pulling straight against it.
- Step 3 of 7
Release the damper pin and glove-box stops
Disconnect the damper-stay pin shown in the Toyota manual. Press the glove-box side walls inward to release each upper stopper one at a time, and release the lower tabs as shown to remove the box without forcing the plastic engagements.
- Step 4 of 7
Unlock and slide out the filter case cover
Find the air-conditioning filter housing behind the glove box. Release the cover's lock, then slide the cover in the direction Toyota shows to disengage the hooks. Do not pry or pull it while its retaining tab is still engaged.
- Step 5 of 7
Remove the old element and follow the correct UP marking
Slide the used cabin-filter element out and install the proper new replacement. In Toyota's January 2014 manual, the UP mark is oriented upward. An aftermarket AIR FLOW arrow can represent airflow rather than UP orientation, so consult that filter's own instructions if the markings differ.
- Step 6 of 7
Refit the cover, glove box and damper in reverse order
Secure the filter cover and its lock, then engage the glove box's lower and upper fittings and reconnect the damper stay. Make sure the box opens and closes normally, without loose clips or unusual resistance.
- Step 7 of 7
Check cabin airflow without operating the HVAC filterless
With the replacement filter and cover installed, test normal ventilation airflow. Toyota says not to run the air conditioner without its filter, and not to wash or blow-clean the disposable replacement-type element. Seek service if the housing design differs or poor airflow persists.
