Step-by-step instructions
Follow these steps
Follow the written instructions in order; illustrations are optional, not a requirement for a complete guide. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 6
Match the Fit Hybrid manual and replacement filter
Confirm the GP5 identification, production period and fitted air-conditioning filter type before buying a replacement. The archived Honda manual says the normal interval is one year or 15,000 km and earlier attention may be needed where dusty air causes clogging. This is the cabin filter, not the engine intake filter.
- Step 2 of 6
Open and lower the glove box
With the vehicle parked and the ignition off, empty and open the glove box. Follow Honda's glove-box diagram and push the left and right stoppers inward to lower it; do not force hinges or plastic clips if the arrangement on your car differs.
- Step 3 of 6
Release the filter cover
Locate the cabin-filter housing behind the lowered glove box. Press the retaining tabs on both sides of the filter-case cover as shown in the manufacturer manual and remove that cover carefully.
- Step 4 of 6
Remove the old element and inspect its orientation
Slide the old cabin-filter element from the housing. Note the AIR FLOW marking and orientation on the filter or the manufacturer diagram before putting in the replacement. Avoid disturbing unrelated wiring or fittings behind the dashboard.
- Step 5 of 6
Install the correctly sized new filter with airflow downward
Slide a matching replacement into the housing without crushing its edges. Honda's cited Fit Hybrid instructions specify that the AIR FLOW arrow on the filter should point downward; a filter with a differently labelled arrow must be checked against its maker's instructions.
- Step 6 of 6
Close the cover and restore the glove box
Reinstall the filter cover until its tabs hold securely, then raise the glove box and reseat the stoppers using the reverse of the Honda opening procedure. Switch on the ventilation and confirm normal airflow and no rattles. If access, clips or the filter shape differ, stop and seek model-specific assistance.
