Applies to Toyota Sienta NHP170G · April 2020 Japan-market Sienta Hybrid NHP170G. Toyota Sienta Hybrid NHP170G of the pre-2022 Japan-market generation where the April 2020 glove box and filter cover match; 2022+ replacement is a different generation. Always compare the described parts, labels and specifications with your own vehicle and manual.

What you’ll need

  • Cabin air filter matching the exact Sienta Hybrid HVAC equipment
  • Toyota April 2020 Sienta Hybrid owner's manual, pages 384–386

Follow these steps

Follow the written instructions in order; illustrations are optional, not a requirement for a complete guide. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.

  1. Step 1 of 7

Check the NHP170G hybrid and match the cabin-filter type

Confirm the vehicle is from the pre-2022 Sienta Hybrid NHP170G family covered by Toyota's April 2020 manual. Toyota recommends changing the cabin filter at 20,000 km, or 10,000 km for the named dusty, congested or cold-region use patterns. The correct replacement still depends on the fitted filter housing.

  2. Step 2 of 7

Switch off and disconnect the glove-box damper stay

Park on level ground, turn the power switch OFF and empty the glove box. Open the glove box, find the damper-stay pin and release the pin as Toyota shows. Keep the glove box supported so the stay cannot yank at its mounting.

  3. Step 3 of 7

Release the glove-box upper side tabs

Press the side walls of the glove box inward to release the left and right upper stoppers, one at a time. Let the glove box open gently instead of forcing it downward past the stops.

  4. Step 4 of 7

Lift slightly before releasing the lower couplings

From the fully open position, lift the glove box slightly, then pull it towards you to release the lower coupling points. Toyota explicitly warns against hard pulling: if the lower couplings resist, adjust the amount of lift and try again rather than breaking the tabs.

  5. Step 5 of 7

Unlock and slide out the filter cover

Release the cabin-filter cover retaining lock behind the removed glove box, slide the cover in the diagrammed direction and disengage the cover tabs. Avoid bending the securing fingers or pulling against the locked side.

  6. Step 6 of 7

Fit the replacement filter using Toyota's UP marking

Remove the old cabin-filter element and fit the matching new one. The cited Toyota diagram requires the UP marking on the filter to point upwards. Check any aftermarket element's distinct AIR FLOW marking separately rather than treating every printed arrow as interchangeable.

  7. Step 7 of 7

    Reassemble and confirm restored airflow

Refit the filter cover and glove box in the reverse order, checking the lower couplings, upper stoppers and damper stay. Check that the cover and glove box stay secure and the cabin airflow is normal. If ventilation is still poor or the mechanism differs, arrange inspection instead of forcing components.
