Honda Fit GK3 warning lights: what each one means

14 warning lights from Honda's own owner's manual, grouped by how urgently the manufacturer says to act, with the printed page or original web section for each so you can check the original.

Japan Fit GK3, 13G L13B petrol 2WD, September 2014 manual only. CVT and manual-transmission equipment differ; smart-key, idle-stop and City-Brake Active warnings apply only when fitted. Not a GP5/GP6 hybrid reference, a 4WD GK4 procedure or proof for later facelift years. Original archived PDF bytes were hash-matched and pages visually rechecked; a new direct download returned HTTP 403.

A warning light is the car reporting a condition, not a diagnosis of a specific part. If braking, steering or engine behaviour changes, stop where it is safe. If you are unsure, follow the manual and contact a dealer. This page does not replace a professional inspection.

Stop safely now

The manufacturer says to stop somewhere safe straight away, or to stop if specific symptoms occur.

Red brake warningStop safely now

Manual name: ブレーキ警告灯(レッド) · red · printed p.58,260

When it lights

  • May indicate the parking brake, low brake fluid or a brake-system fault.

What the manual says to do

  • If it remains on after releasing the parking brake, stop safely and follow Honda's brake-warning procedure. Arrange immediate Honda inspection.
  • An abnormal pedal or the ABS light at the same time requires immediate attention; do not treat it as a routine service reminder.

Low engine-oil pressureStop safely now

Manual name: 油圧警告灯 · red · printed p.58,259

When it lights

  • Oil pressure drops while the engine is running; the normal ignition-on check should extinguish after starting.

What the manual says to do

  • Stop immediately on level ground somewhere safe and use the hazard lights. Stop the engine, wait about three minutes and check its oil level.
  • Follow the original manual's level-check and restart procedure. If the lamp does not extinguish within ten seconds after restarting, stop the engine and arrange immediate Honda repair.
  • A normal oil level does not establish normal oil pressure; continuing with low pressure can damage the engine.

High coolant temperatureStop safely now

Manual name: 高水温警告灯(レッド) · red · printed p.62,258

When it lights

  • Flashes as engine-coolant temperature rises and stays on as it rises further. The blue cold-coolant indicator is separate.

What the manual says to do

  • Flashing while driving: slow down as Honda directs. Steady red: stop somewhere safe immediately and follow the overheating procedure.
  • Steam requires waiting before opening the bonnet. Never remove a hot radiator cap; arrange Honda assistance if coolant is leaking or the warning persists.

Have it inspected promptly

The manufacturer says to have the car inspected by a dealer promptly.

City-Brake Active system warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: ブレーキシステム警告灯(オレンジ) · orange · printed p.58 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • A fault in the fitted City-Brake Active system.
  • With the City-Brake Active indicator also on, that system is not operating.

What the manual says to do

  • Have the vehicle inspected by Honda promptly; do not rely on the affected assistance system.

PGM-FI / check-engine warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: PGM-FI警告灯 · printed p.59,260

When it lights

  • Steady: an engine emission-control fault.
  • Flashing: detected cylinder misfire.

What the manual says to do

  • Steady while driving: avoid high-speed driving and obtain immediate Honda inspection.
  • Flashing: stop safely away from combustible material and leave the engine off for at least ten minutes. Follow Honda's flashing-warning procedure; this is not proof of a particular failed component.

Battery charging warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: 充電警告灯 · printed p.59,259

When it lights

  • The battery is not being charged.

What the manual says to do

  • Reduce electrical load, including A/C and rear demister, and obtain immediate Honda repair.
  • Honda cautions against switching the engine off for a temporary stop because restarting discharges the battery further. A charging warning is not a confirmed battery-replacement diagnosis.

CVT transmission warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: トランスミッション警告灯 · printed p.59 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • Flashes when a fault is detected in the automatic transmission; not a warning supplied for the 5MT configuration.

What the manual says to do

  • Avoid sudden starts or acceleration and have Honda inspect the vehicle immediately.

ABS warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: ABS警告灯 · printed p.60,260

When it lights

  • An ABS fault; a short ignition-on illumination is the normal check.

What the manual says to do

  • Arrange immediate Honda inspection. If accompanied by the red brake warning, follow the separate brake emergency instructions.

Airbag / pretensioner warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: エアバッグシステム警告灯 · printed p.60

When it lights

  • An airbag or pretensioner-system fault; failing to illuminate for its normal check is also abnormal.

What the manual says to do

  • Have the system inspected by Honda immediately. Do not probe SRS components or assume which sensor or inflator has failed.

VSA warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: VSA警告灯 · printed p.61

When it lights

  • Flashing can indicate VSA operation. Persistent illumination can indicate a VSA, brake-assist, hill-start-assist or emergency-stop-signal fault.

What the manual says to do

  • If illuminated while driving, have Honda inspect the system immediately. Distinguish this warning from the separate VSA OFF indicator.

Electric power-steering warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: EPS警告灯 · printed p.62,261

When it lights

  • An electric power-steering fault, or a failure of the normal ignition-on lamp check.

What the manual says to do

  • Arrange immediate Honda inspection and follow the EPS warning section. If steering behaviour makes control unsafe, stop safely rather than continuing diagnostics.

Idle-stop system warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: アイドリングストップシステム警告灯(オレンジ) · orange · printed p.63 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • A fault in the fitted idle-stop system.

What the manual says to do

  • Have Honda inspect the system immediately. Do not fit a different battery type or clear warnings as a substitute for diagnosis.

Check and correct

Often caused by something you can check or correct yourself; see the conditions listed.

Low fuel warningCheck and correct

Manual name: 燃料残量警告灯 · printed p.60

When it lights

  • Fuel remaining becomes low. Flashing can indicate a fuel-gauge fault.

What the manual says to do

  • Refuel promptly when illuminated. If flashing, have Honda check the gauge; do not infer remaining driving range from the lamp.

Smart-key battery lowCheck and correct

Manual name: Hondaスマートキー電池消耗警告灯 · printed p.63 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • The fitted Honda Smart Key's battery is running low.

What the manual says to do

  • Use the exact key's documented replacement procedure or ask Honda. This warning does not describe the vehicle's 12V battery.
