Corrections and source disputes

Every public specification should identify its vehicle scope and a traceable source. If an answer is incomplete, outdated or incorrectly applied to a chassis, we want to correct the record without concealing material changes.

Report a public-data error

Email contact@carfactbook.com, or use the "Report an error" link on any answer to start a pre-filled email. Include the page URL, the disputed statement, the exact model/chassis/year/market, and a manufacturer reference where possible.

Never include a full VIN, plate number, service receipt or other private identifying information in a report.

How we decide

  1. Preserve the reported page URL and determine the exact scope of the original claim.
  2. Compare original manufacturer documents, including model year, equipment, market, edition and footnotes.
  3. When sources conflict, prefer the source matching the vehicle and production period; otherwise state the disagreement and withhold an unsafe universal answer.
  4. Verify the proposed correction separately from its author, update related pages, and log the affected URL and source.

When manufacturer sources disagree

Two official documents can both be correct for different cars. We decide which one applies in this order, and we publish the scope next to every answer:

  1. Market. A Japanese, US, European or other national edition applies only to vehicles built for that market. We do not transfer a value across markets because the model name matches.
  2. Generation and chassis code. The exact chassis or model type code (for example NZT260 or 6AA-MXPJ10) must appear in, or be clearly covered by, the source. Successor and facelift codes are treated as separate vehicles until a source covers both.
  3. Model year and production period. When a manual or catalogue names a production window, the value applies only inside it. A later edition replaces an earlier one only for the vehicles it covers.
  4. Manual edition. We record the edition or publication date we read. If a newer edition changes a value, the older value stays published only for the vehicles it applied to, with both editions cited.
  5. Configuration. Engine, drive (2WD/4WD/AWD), transmission, grade and fitted wheel size can each change a value. Where they do, we show each configuration separately instead of a single number.
  6. Source type. An owner's manual or service document outranks a sales brochure for service values; a brochure or catalogue can support identity and catalogue specifications only.

If two sources still conflict for the same vehicle, market, period and configuration, we state the disagreement and withhold a single universal answer. Safety-critical procedures are not published without a separate qualified review, and a source verification date is never presented as a person's review.

Published material corrections

No independently verified correction entries have been added to this public log. This does not assert that no page has ever changed; the historical record must be reconciled before backfilling entries.
