Last updated . This policy covers carfactbook.com. You can read every vehicle reference without an account, and we do not ask for your name or email address to use the site.
Analytics
On public pages we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which references are useful, for example page views, the pages people arrive from and general device and location information. Google Analytics sets cookies and Google processes your IP address to provide this service. We do not send names, email addresses or vehicle records to Google Analytics, and analytics is switched off on our private administration and sign-in pages and in My Garage. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics does not use cookies until you give consent; before that, Google may receive limited measurement signals without cookies, as described in Google's consent mode.
Optional measurement in the repair-quote comparison tool
The repair-quote comparison tool has an optional, unticked box: “Allow Google Analytics to receive this tool's optional comparison events”. If you tick it, the tool sends two events to Google Analytics: one when you start a comparison and one when you complete it. These two events contain only the vehicle chassis, market, repair type and tool version, and Google Analytics may also collect standard page, session and device information with them. The box does not control the site's standard page analytics described above, which may already be active where your region doesn't require consent. The prices, supplier names, part identifiers, warranty details, dates and summaries you enter are never sent and stay in your browser. Nothing you did before ticking the box is sent afterwards. Your choice applies only to the current visit and is not saved. Unticking the box, or choosing “Turn off Google Analytics for this page view”, stops the comparison events and switches off further Google Analytics measurement for the rest of that page view; it cannot recall or delete data already sent, and Google's consent mode may still send limited signals without cookies. Where Google's consent message manages your privacy choices, the tool follows that choice and does not override it; you can change it in the site's privacy and cookie settings. The calculator works the same whether or not you tick the box.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the Internet.

We do not show ads on our administration, sign-in or account-recovery pages, or in My Garage and Vehicle Passport.
Hosting and approximate location
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard request data such as your IP address to deliver pages. Our valuation tool reads the approximate country and region that Vercel derives from your connection so it can pre-select a market; we do not store that location.
Information you choose to submit
- Owner problem reports: the vehicle, symptoms, repair details and any optional mileage or country you enter are stored for human review before anything is published. Do not include names, contact details or registration numbers.
- Vehicle Passport: service records and any documents you attach are stored in our database and are accessible only with your recovery code. Keep that code private; you can delete individual records from the Passport.
Information stored in your browser
My Garage, your selected valuation market and repair follow-up reminders are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device unless you choose to sync records to Vehicle Passport, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Administrator accounts
Only CarFactBook operators have accounts. Sign-in, multi-factor authentication and session cookies are used solely for the private administration area.
Children
CarFactBook is a vehicle reference intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices and requests
You can block or delete cookies in your browser, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and manage ad personalisation as described above. To ask about or delete information you submitted, email privacy@carfactbook.com.
