Toyota Premio NZT260 warning lights: what each one means

18 warning lights from Toyota's own owner's manual, grouped by how urgently the manufacturer says to act, with the printed page or original web section for each so you can check the original.

Japan-market Premio NZT260 1.5-litre petrol, using the November 2012 Premio manual. Match the actual cluster, grade and options; this edition does not establish every NZT260 production year or export-market car. VSC, cruise control, clearance sonar and discharge-headlamp warnings apply only where fitted. The manual's 2ZR-FAE/3ZR-FAE-only brake self-check note is not applied to the NZT260's 1NZ-FE engine. These are manufacturer first actions, not component diagnoses.

A warning light is the car reporting a condition, not a diagnosis of a specific part. If braking, steering or engine behaviour changes, stop where it is safe. If you are unsure, follow the manual and contact a dealer. This page does not replace a professional inspection.

Stop safely now

The manufacturer says to stop somewhere safe straight away, or to stop if specific symptoms occur.

Brake warning / parking-brake buzzerStop safely now

Manual name: ブレーキ警告灯(警告ブザー) · printed p.293

When it lights

  • Can indicate insufficient brake fluid or a brake-system fault.
  • It also stays on while the parking brake is applied; the manual describes a buzzer above approximately 5 km/h if it is not released.

What the manual says to do

  • Release the parking brake. If that clears the warning, the manual treats that indication as normal.
  • If it remains on, stop immediately somewhere safe and contact Toyota: continuing can be dangerous.

Charging-system warningStop safely now

Manual name: 充電警告灯 · printed p.294

When it lights

  • A fault in the charging system.

What the manual says to do

  • Stop immediately somewhere safe and contact Toyota. The light alone does not identify a failed battery or a replacement size.

Low engine-oil pressureStop safely now

Manual name: 油圧警告灯 · printed p.294

When it lights

  • Engine-oil pressure is abnormal; this is not an oil-level or refill-volume reading.

What the manual says to do

  • Stop immediately somewhere safe and contact Toyota. Do not keep driving or substitute another model's restart procedure.

Flashing coolant-temperature gaugeStop safely now

Manual name: オーバーヒート警告表示 · printed p.294, 323–324

When it lights

  • Abnormal engine-coolant temperature; the upper end of the temperature gauge flashes during overheating.

What the manual says to do

  • Stop immediately somewhere safe and follow this edition's overheating procedure, starting by switching the air conditioning off.
  • Check the original procedure before opening the bonnet. Keep clear of steam and fans; do not remove a hot cooling-system cap. Arrange Toyota inspection promptly.

Have it inspected promptly

The manufacturer says to have the car inspected by a dealer promptly.

Engine warning lightHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: エンジン警告灯 · printed p.295

When it lights

  • A fault in engine electronic control, electronic throttle control or automatic-transmission electronic control.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. The lamp does not distinguish those systems or identify a specific failed part.

SRS airbag / pretensioner warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: SRS エアバッグ/プリテンショナー警告灯 · printed p.295

When it lights

  • A fault in the SRS airbag system or seat-belt pretensioner system.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. Do not probe airbag wiring or infer a repair from the warning alone.

ABS / ABS and brake-assist warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: ABS 警告灯/ABS & ブレーキアシスト警告灯 · printed p.295

When it lights

  • An ABS fault. On VSC-equipped vehicles the combined warning also covers brake-assist faults; the manual lists a different label for cars without VSC.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. Match the warning label and fitted VSC equipment rather than assuming every NZT260 has the same assistance.

Power-steering warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: パワーステアリング警告灯 · printed p.295–296

When it lights

  • A fault in the electric power-steering system.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. The manual warns that steering may become very heavy; hold the wheel securely and use more force than usual if steering is heavy.

Discharge-headlamp auto-level warningHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: ディスチャージヘッドライトオートレベリング警告灯 · printed p.295 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • A fault in automatic headlamp beam-level control on equipped cars.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. This does not specify a bulb or prove that discharge headlamps are fitted to your grade.

Slip indicator: flashing versus steadyHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: スリップ表示灯 · printed p.295, 152 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • Flashing can indicate TRC or VSC intervention.
  • Steady illumination can indicate a TRC/VSC fault, but also occurs when those systems have deliberately been switched off.

What the manual says to do

  • Check whether TRC/VSC was deliberately disabled, using the actual switch and this manual's instructions. Do not treat normal intervention flashing as a fault.
  • For a fault indication, the warning table directs immediate Toyota inspection.

Flashing VSC OFF indicatorHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: VSC OFF 表示灯(点滅) · printed p.295, 152 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • The warning table identifies flashing VSC OFF as a TRC/VSC fault. Steady illumination when the systems were deliberately disabled is a separate state.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately for the flashing fault indication. Do not confuse it with the normal steady disabled indicator.

Flashing cruise-control indicatorHave it inspected promptly

Manual name: クルーズコントロール表示灯(点滅) · printed p.296 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • A possible cruise-control fault.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately; use the exact manual's cruise-control section before attempting operation.

Clearance-sonar sensor fault — pattern 1Have it inspected promptly

Manual name: クリアランスソナー表示灯(パターン1) · printed p.296 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • The affected sensor position and buzzer identify a detected sensor fault; the warning stops when the abnormality is no longer detected.

What the manual says to do

  • Obtain Toyota inspection immediately. Distinguish this sensor-fault pattern from the dirt-obstruction pattern below.

Check and correct

Often caused by something you can check or correct yourself; see the conditions listed.

Door / boot not fully closedCheck and correct

Manual name: 半ドア警告灯/半ドア警告表示 · printed p.297

When it lights

  • A door or the boot is open or not completely latched; presentation differs between cluster and multi-information display.

What the manual says to do

  • Close all doors and the boot securely and confirm the warning clears.

Low fuel warningCheck and correct

Manual name: 燃料残量警告灯 · printed p.297

When it lights

  • The November 2012 manual gives approximately 9 L or less remaining as the warning threshold.

What the manual says to do

  • Refuel promptly. Toyota warns that the indicated and actual fuel amounts can differ slightly. This approximate warning threshold is not nominal tank capacity, guaranteed usable reserve or a remaining-distance promise.

Clearance-sonar obstruction — pattern 2Check and correct

Manual name: クリアランスソナー表示灯(パターン2) · printed p.297 · fitted on some grades only

When it lights

  • Dirt or snow is attached to a sensor; the displayed sensor position and buzzer identify the affected area.

What the manual says to do

  • Remove the dirt or snow and confirm the warning clears. If the sensor is not dirty, Toyota directs inspection rather than repeated cleaning or an assumed sensor replacement.

Driver seat-belt reminderCheck and correct

Manual name: 運転席シートベルト非着用警告灯 · printed p.298

When it lights

  • The driver's seat belt is not fastened.

What the manual says to do

  • Fasten the seat belt before driving. Do not disable the reminder.

Front-passenger seat-belt reminderCheck and correct

Manual name: 助手席シートベルト非着用警告灯 · printed p.298

When it lights

  • The front passenger's seat belt is not fastened. The manual notes that luggage can trigger the occupancy sensor, while a cushion can prevent correct detection.

What the manual says to do

  • Ensure the passenger is properly belted; do not mistake an occupied-seat sensor response to luggage for proof of a failed buckle.

Follow the warning's first action above. These service references do not diagnose or clear a warning.
