Step-by-step instructions
Follow these steps
Follow the written instructions in order; illustrations are optional, not a requirement for a complete guide. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 7
Identify your JF3 generation and service need
Confirm the chassis and glove-box arrangement belong to the 2017–2023-generation Honda N-BOX JF3 covered by Honda's 2020 manual. Honda gives a normal cabin-filter interval of one year or 15,000 km and recommends earlier replacement in dusty use. Restricted air flow or persistent fogging can also be signs of a clogged filter.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑Chassis and glove-box assembly match the cited 2020 N-BOX manual.
- Step 2 of 7
Park safely and switch the ignition off
Leave the N-BOX securely parked, switch off the engine and ventilation fan, and move loose objects out of the footwell. Prepare the correct filter beforehand; do not start work with an unknown or poorly fitting replacement.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 7
Remove the glove box without opening it
This is the important model-specific difference: Honda's 2020 JF3 manual says to grip the LOWER edge of the glove box and pull it toward you to remove it WITHOUT first opening the glove box. Support it while releasing its mounting points and use only the force and direction shown in the manufacturer drawing.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑The glove box is removed intact using Honda's closed-box lower-edge method.
- Step 4 of 7
Unclip the cabin-filter cover
With the glove box removed, locate the air-clean filter housing. Squeeze the retaining tabs on the LEFT and RIGHT sides of the filter-case cover as shown in the Honda manual, then remove the cover without levering against the HVAC housing.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑The cover releases cleanly without broken plastic catches.
- Step 5 of 7
Withdraw the used cabin filter
Pull the old cabin filter straight out of the exposed housing. Look at the existing filter's markings and the slot dimensions before installing the replacement. Do not disturb adjacent electrical connectors or dashboard wiring.
All steps ↑ - Step 6 of 7
Install the new filter with AIR FLOW pointing down
Use an exact-fitting replacement. Honda's 2020 N-BOX manual specifically shows the AIR FLOW arrow pointing DOWNWARD on the filter. Slide the element in flat without crushing the pleats. If the replacement instead uses an UP or other marking, follow its manufacturer's directions only after checking that they agree with the installed housing flow direction.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑New filter fits flush, AIR FLOW is downward where indicated, and no pleats are trapped.
- Step 7 of 7
Refit the cover and glove box and check ventilation
Reattach the filter-case cover until both side clips are secure, then refit the JF3 glove box by the reverse of Honda's removal method. Check that the box is seated, operates as designed and that the fan provides normal airflow without new rattles.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑Both cover clips engage; glove box sits flush; ventilation airflow is normal.
