Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct manufacturer-backed specification
Use these source-backed checks to identify the option for your exact equipment. This is a selection guide, not a hands-on replacement procedure. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Identify the actual key system
Confirm whether the car has Smart Entry & Start and its electronic key, or a conventional wireless key without that system. Use the actual equipment and matching manual illustrations, not the Aqua name, registration year, a seller's photo or a replacement shell alone.
Check before moving onAll steps ↑You can identify both the fitted key system and the production period.
- Step 2 of 5
Follow the documented key-type branch
Toyota's February 2013 manual lists CR1632 with Smart Entry & Start and CR2016 without it. Toyota's FAQ independently gives the same split for the December 2014 minor change through the July 2021 model change. The table below keeps the early manual edition and the later documented period distinct.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Keep newer Aqua advice out of the NHP10 decision
Toyota's current FAQ also mentions other cells for newer Aqua electronic keys. Those current and later-generation rows do not choose a cell for NHP10. If your car falls outside the evidence rows, or its key has been changed, obtain the matching manual or Toyota confirmation rather than selecting the closest year.
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Check before opening or ordering
Match the key housing to Toyota's illustrations and the specified cell to the existing marking where it can be checked safely. A previous cell may itself be incorrect. If the manual, equipment and cell disagree, ask Toyota or a qualified key specialist; do not force a different cell into the holder.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Use the matching key procedure after selection
Toyota's February 2013 manual gives separate opening sequences for the two key systems. Keep coin cells and loose key parts away from children, avoid wet hands and protect electrical contacts. This selection aid does not replace the matching illustrated procedure or promise that a new cell will fix every key fault.

Where these instructions come from
Japan-market NHP10 with the documented actual key system; February 2013 manual is separate early-edition evidence
The FAQ period is not extended backwards to the entire first generation. The February 2013 manual separately corroborates the key-type split at that edition. Unchecked periods, altered keys and newer Aqua generations require their own documentation.
