Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct maintenance schedule
Use these source-backed checks to identify the applicable service interval. This article does not teach hands-on engine servicing. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Use the full chassis number for build year
JAMA publishes the serial ranges built each calendar year. Vitz NSP130: 2191871–2226076 (2015), 2226077–2255093 (2016), 2255094–2279877 (2017), 2279878–2295861 and 4000000–4006126 (2018), 4006127–4033311 (2019), 4033312–4034533 (2020). Premio NZT260: 3155157–3169226 (2015), 3169227–3188896 (2016), 3188897–3203029 (2017), 3203030–3215576 (2018), 3215577–3224704 (2019), 3224705–3229713 (2020), 3229714–3231753 (2021).
All steps ↑ - Step 2 of 5
Treat the JAMA result as reference, not proof
JAMA states its tables are reference information and not a certificate. Its published online tables begin with 2015 production, so earlier serials cannot be placed this way. Premio's 2019 row lists DBA-NZT260 and 3BA-NZT260 together under one common serial sequence, so the prefix change does not restart the numbering. Import-age, duty and registration decisions belong to official documents and authorities.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Identify the key system before ordering a key battery
Both manuals split cars with and without smart entry & start. Toyota specifies CR1632 for the smart-entry electronic key and CR2016 for the conventional wireless key in the Vitz April 2014 and Premio November 2012 editions. Both manuals describe a separate push-type engine switch for smart-entry cars, so a turn-key ignition points to the conventional key. Match the key you actually have rather than the grade name on an advert.
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Check the visible equipment variants Toyota distinguishes
The Vitz manual separately covers a drive monitor display meter with or without a tachometer versus a multi-information display, halogen versus LED headlamps, a temporary spare versus a puncture-repair kit, and a 7-speed sport sequential shiftmatic or not. The Premio manual separates halogen and discharge headlights, manual and automatic air conditioning, and maker-option audio, navigation and ETC. Each affects which manual page and part apply.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Confirm grade and options with the full chassis number
Toyota marks such items as varying by grade, model type or options but does not map them to grade names in these manuals. Do not infer a grade from one feature or buy parts by grade label. Give the supplier the full chassis number, build year and observed equipment, and ask for written confirmation of the part identity before paying.
