Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct manufacturer-backed specification
Use these source-backed checks to identify the option for your exact equipment. This is a selection guide, not a hands-on replacement procedure. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Use the five English top-level menus as anchors
Mazda's Japanese quick start guide shows the home screen with five functions whose names appear in English: Applications, Entertainment, Communication, Navigation and Settings. Sub-menus are mostly Japanese. Navigation needs the maker-option map SD card; DVD/CD and TV need maker options too, so an empty or greyed menu does not prove a fault. Mazda warns that leaving the power position in ACC switches the system off after 20 minutes to protect the battery.
All steps ↑ - Step 2 of 5
Pair a phone with the Japanese prompts
Mazda's first-pairing sequence is: Home → Communication → “はい” (Yes) → “新規機器の登録” (Register new device), then within 180 seconds turn on Bluetooth on the phone and choose “Mazda”. To add a second phone the guide gives Home → 設定 (Settings) → 通信 (Communication) → Bluetooth → 新規機器の登録. If pairing fails, Mazda says to check phone compatibility, confirm Bluetooth is on, delete “Mazda” from the phone and pair again.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Reset fuel economy and read the Applications menu
Under Applications Mazda lists i-DM, メンテナンス (maintenance), 燃費モニター (fuel-economy monitor), ウォーニング (warnings) and ドライバ選択 (driver select). Average fuel economy can be reset by holding the steering-wheel INFO switch while it is shown in the meter, by resetting TRIP A when the linkage setting is on, or via Home → Applications → 燃費モニター → menu bar → “燃費リセット” (fuel-economy reset).
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Set the maintenance reminder and driver names
Mazda's メンテナンス screen lets the owner set an oil-change distance and a periodic-inspection interval in months. It is a reminder you configure, not a diagnosis, and the guide does not supply the interval itself. ドライバ選択 → a driver → “ドライバ名編集” (edit driver name) renames drivers 1 and 2; Mazda states these profiles are linked to the keys and keep separate i-DM scores.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Change vehicle settings only while parked
From Settings Mazda lists オートワイパー (auto wipers), ドアロック (door-lock timing), 方向指示器 (three-flash turn signal and buzzer volume) and 照明 (auto lights, reminder chime and interior-lamp timers), plus Active Driving Display height and brightness where fitted. Items vary by model and grade. The quick start guide does not document switching the whole interface to English, so this page makes no claim that a language option exists on JDM units.
