Identify before you buy
Serial → Mazda manual group → JAMA build year
| What you have | What the evidence establishes | Next owner decision |
|---|---|---|

Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct manufacturer-backed specification
Use these source-backed checks to identify the option for your exact equipment. This is a selection guide, not a hands-on replacement procedure. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Read the full chassis number, not the model name
A JDM Axela carries a chassis number in the form BM5FS-xxxxxx. The six-digit serial after the dash is what both JAMA's production tables and Mazda's manual index use. Copy it from the vehicle documents or plate; a seller's model-year label, auction sheet summary or local registration year is not the same thing.
All steps ↑ - Step 2 of 5
Find the manual group from Mazda's own index
Mazda's Axela manual page lists BM5FS-100001 onward from November 2013, BM5FS-300001 onward from August 2015 and BM5FS-400001 onward from July 2016, each with its own manual. Battery, fuse and key references on CarFactBook already cite a specific group; use the group your serial falls in. Mazda's index does not list a separate 200001 group.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Place the build year using JAMA's table
JAMA, the Japanese manufacturers' association, publishes the serial ranges each maker built in a calendar year. For BM5FS it lists 200003–204411 and 300006–304144 in 2015; 304145–307481 and 400003–405195 in 2016; 405196–414390 in 2017; 414391–420725 and 420727–420863 in 2018; and 420726 plus 420864–424027 in 2019. JAMA states these tables are reference information, not a certificate.
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Resolve the 2xxxxx serial gap before relying on a manual
JAMA's 2015 table shows a BM5FS 200003–204411 series that Mazda's manual index does not name. If your serial starts with 2, confirm with Mazda which manual and specification apply before using any edition-specific battery, fuse or settings reference. Serials built before 2015 are outside JAMA's published online tables; use Mazda's group start dates instead.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Use the result to choose references, not to prove eligibility
Record the serial, group and JAMA year together with any parts or service order. Import-age rules, duty and registration depend on your country's authority and documents; this page does not interpret them. A build year also does not identify grade, options or prior modifications: confirm those against the vehicle.
