Early Australian BYD ATTO 3: 12V Battery and Smart Charging
Why can an early ATTO 3 have low-voltage trouble while the traction battery still has charge?
The early Australian ATTO 3 handbook describes separate high-voltage and under-bonnet lead-acid 12 V batteries. Smart Charging can replenish the low-voltage battery from the traction pack, but a very low auxiliary voltage can still prevent the vehicle powering on.
Applicable to: BYD Australia owner handbook labelled 2022, early ATTO 3 with the described under-bonnet lead-acid battery. Not a later lithium low-voltage system, ATTO 3 EVO, ATTO 2 or proof of Sri Lankan delivered equipment.
Use the evidence for the next owner decision
Applies to: BYD Australia owner handbook labelled 2022, early ATTO 3 with the described under-bonnet lead-acid battery. Not a later lithium low-voltage system, ATTO 3 EVO, ATTO 2 or proof of Sri Lankan delivered equipment.
Two batteries have different jobs
The traction-pack percentage is not a direct health reading for the auxiliary battery. The early handbook states that very low lead-acid voltage can prevent powering on and directs the owner to BYD service. Do not assume a charged traction pack rules out a low-voltage supply problem.
Record whether the car will unlock, power on or show a low-voltage warning, and whether it was charging or driving. Those observations help service triage without claiming that every no-start has the same cause.
Understand normal parked energy use without dismissing a fault
The handbook says Smart Charging may operate while the vehicle is off when its stated conditions are met. It draws from the power battery, so some decrease in displayed charge after an idle period can be expected. It gives no universal daily percentage loss that this article can use to excuse a persistent problem.
Close doors and switch electrical equipment off when leaving the vehicle, as the handbook directs. Do not carry out maintenance during Smart Charging. Long-storage decisions need the actual delivered manual and service advice; this page does not give a battery-disconnection or jump-start sequence.
Do not select a replacement from the model name alone
The early document identifies a lead-acid system but does not justify an aftermarket size, capacity upgrade or substitution for a later low-voltage technology. Confirm the fitted battery and correct BYD reference before ordering.
For the handbook’s driving-time low-voltage warning, turn off the A/C and fans, immediately park the vehicle safely and contact a BYD authorised dealer or service provider. Do not investigate orange high-voltage cables or assume an auxiliary-battery replacement will repair a DC-system fault.
Manufacturer-specified figures by configuration
These are manufacturer-referenced values for the named configurations only. Read the exact source for your engine, trim and market instead of carrying a measurement across model names or model years.

Match the exact vehicle.
Check 1
Identify the early under-bonnet lead-acid system before using this handbook.
Check 2
Do not infer a battery part, lithium-system replacement or high-voltage repair from this reference.
Where the numbers came from
Original BYD Australia 2022 handbook: Smart Charging printed p.88, low-voltage battery p.94 and warning-light instruction p.42. The PDF pages are offset by one. Storage and repair operations are deliberately not rewritten as a DIY electrical guide.

This page is an original explanation of limited factual specifications. CarFactBook has not inferred an exact VIN, fitted replacement part, global-equivalent manual or unpublished service quantity.
Source count: 1. The original manufacturer's vehicle-specific manual and labels take priority if your exact car differs from these listed reference configurations.
