Toyota RAV4 oil capacity: choose the powertrain.

The short answer

What engine-oil refill does a Japanese-market RAV4 take?

Toyota Japan's June 2024 RAV4 manual distinguishes 2.0L M20A-FKS gasoline (3.5 L oil-only, 3.9 L with filter) from 2.5L A25A-FXS hybrid or plug-in hybrid (4.0 L oil-only, 4.3 L with filter). These are engine-service references, not US RAV4 specifications.

Applicable to: June 2024 Toyota JAPAN owners-manual editions: 2.0L conventional gasoline, 2.5L HEV and 2.5L PHEV; do not transfer to other markets or engine generations.

02 / Before you use these values

Match the exact vehicle.

Check 1

Confirm engine code, Japanese-market powertrain, VIN and applicable manual; a 2.0L petrol RAV4 does not share the 2.5L hybrid oil quantity.

Check 2

Oil-only and oil-with-filter are different reference refill amounts; check the final oil level following Toyota's procedure, not just a measured pour.

Check 3

US- and European-market RAV4 engines, model-year ranges and drivetrain specifications may differ. No cross-market fitment is implied.

Where the numbers came from

Original cross-powertrain matrix compiled from three distinct Toyota Japan online owner's-manual service-data chapters, each June 2024 and linked separately. Existing CarFactBook exact-chassis records for MXAA52/MXAA54, AXAH52/AXAH54 and AXAP54 corroborate the values.

This page is an original explanation of limited factual specifications. CarFactBook has not inferred an exact VIN, fitted replacement part, global-equivalent manual or unpublished service quantity.

Source count: 3. The original manufacturer's vehicle-specific manual and labels take priority if your exact car differs from these listed reference configurations.
