Identify before you buy
Japanese meter label → meaning → what the owner can do
| What you have | What the evidence establishes | Next owner decision |
|---|---|---|
| トリップ燃費 | Trip fuel economy (one journey) | Information only. |
| 平均燃費 / 平均車速 / 走行時間 | Average economy, average speed, driving time since reset | ~1 s hold resets one item; ~3 s resets all three. |
| 航続可能距離 | Range estimate; flashes when fuel is low, then “---” | Refuel; small top-ups may not update it. |
| 外気温 | Outside temperature; flashes at 3 °C or below | Information; watch for icy roads. |
| Wrench + distance at power ON | Owner-set service reminder (0–30,000 km) | Hold the maintenance switch ~3 s within 5 s of power ON to change; 0 hides it. |
| 出力制限表示灯 | Power-limit indicator | Expressway ≤80 km/h and stop at the next PA/SA; ordinary roads stop safely and wait. |

Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct maintenance schedule
Use these source-backed checks to identify the applicable service interval. This article does not teach hands-on engine servicing. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Read the six trip-computer items
Nissan's 1611 manual lists six meter-display items: トリップ燃費 (trip fuel economy for one journey), 平均燃費 (average fuel economy since reset), 航続可能距離 (range from remaining fuel and average economy), 平均車速 (average speed since reset), 走行時間 (driving time since reset) and 外気温 (outside temperature). Average economy and range update every 30 seconds. Change items only while parked.
All steps ↑ - Step 2 of 5
Reset average values the way Nissan describes
With average economy, average speed or driving time displayed, holding the trip-computer switch shown in Nissan's illustration for about one second resets that item; holding it for about three seconds resets average economy, average speed and driving time together. After a reset, average economy shows “---” until roughly 500 m has been driven. A reset clears your own record; it does not clear a warning or a service code.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Understand flashing range and temperature readings
Range flashes when fuel is low and changes to “---” as it falls further. A small top-up can leave the previous figure displayed, and fuel movement on hills or bends can change it briefly. The outside-temperature reading flashes at 3 °C or below and returns to normal after about one minute or once it reaches 4 °C. Neither is a fault indication on its own.
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Set or switch off the wrench service reminder
At power ON the wrench symbol and distance remaining show for about five seconds. To change it, hold the maintenance-setting switch for about three seconds within five seconds of power ON; while it flashes, each press adds 1,000 km, from 0 to 30,000 km, then back to 0. Leave it for five seconds to store. Setting 0 hides the reminder. Nissan refers to its separate maintenance notebook for the actual interval: this reminder is a counter you set, not a diagnosis.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Set the clock and know what the power-limit light means
Hold the clock-adjust switch about two seconds until the hour flashes; a short press switches 12/24-hour display. Adjust hours, wait about three seconds for minutes, then press once the colon flashes (it also stores after 60 seconds). Disconnecting the 12V battery resets the time. If the power-limit indicator (出力制限表示灯) comes on alone, Nissan says to keep to 80 km/h or less on an expressway and wait at the next parking or service area until it goes out, or stop safely on ordinary roads; other warning lights take priority.
