Identify before you buy
From a warning to a justified service decision
| What you have | What the evidence establishes | Next owner decision |
|---|---|---|
| 12V charging warning while operating | Nissan calls for a safe stop and dealer contact | Charging-system diagnosis before a battery purchase. |
| Battery replacement supported by findings | HE12 grade/equipment determine the reference | Use the existing LN1/LN2 guide and verify exact fitment. |
| Engine service overdue | e-POWER still has a petrol engine | Use the separate normal/severe-use maintenance evidence. |

Step-by-step instructions
Choose the correct manufacturer-backed specification
Use these source-backed checks to identify the option for your exact equipment. This is a selection guide, not a hands-on replacement procedure. If a component or label looks different on your car, stop and check your own manual.
- Step 1 of 5
Identify the exact light and its operating state
Nissan's manual distinguishes the normal power-ON lamp check from a warning that remains while e-POWER operates. Its 12V charging warning, oil-pressure warning and engine MIL entries direct a safe stop and contact with Nissan. Do not apply a generic petrol-Note drive-on rule or decide that the traction battery is defective from the word e-POWER.
All steps ↑ - Step 2 of 5
Ask why a battery is being proposed
A 12V charging warning identifies a charging-system concern in the manual; it does not identify a failed battery. Ask the workshop for the findings supporting the proposed component and whether the charging system was assessed. Record other warnings and whether the system became ready. This checklist cannot supply a diagnosis from symptoms or fault-code names alone.
All steps ↑ - Step 3 of 5
Use the existing grade-specific selection guide only after diagnosis
Nissan's HE12 battery FAQ distinguishes LN1 and LN2 configurations by grade/equipment. Use the linked selection guide to collect the correct grade, production period and label details before a purchase. A Kenya-based seller's claim that all e-POWER Notes use one size is not manufacturer confirmation, and a conventional E12 gasoline row is not an HE12 substitute.
All steps ↑ - Step 4 of 5
Keep engine maintenance and electric-drive work separate
The e-POWER name does not remove engine-oil maintenance. Link the workshop to the existing HE12 normal/severe-use interval guide and ask which work is actually due. Keep 12V battery work, engine service and any traction-system proposal as distinct invoice lines. Ask what post-work checks are included rather than requesting an undocumented reset sequence.
All steps ↑ - Step 5 of 5
Make a complete imported-car handover
Keep the full chassis identity, source-manual edition, warning photographs taken safely, date/odometer, diagnosis and itemised proposal together. Ask for part identity, included labour, warranty and return/disposal terms. These are JDM technical references for owners in Kenya, not evidence of Kenyan factory specifications, prices or universal local parts availability.
